Caprica 1.5

I watched the first episode of Caprica 1.5 yesterday. I'm a sucker for any kind of AI stories so I knew I'll be back for more.
First thing first - the 1.0 cliffhanger left three prominent female characters in situations that implied they might be dead. None of them were. I mean of course Zoe is dead but she was so since the first episode so nothing changed here. There was almost no doubt sister Clarice survived, and so we saw her from the beginning of the episode. They kept us in the dark about the faiths of Amanda and Zoe almost till the end of the episode but I figured out that Amanda isn't dead due to clever avoidance of the subject and Zoe obviously couldn't be eliminated from the series.
So the big cliffhanger ended in a fizzle and the plot of this episode wasn't much better. Good thing we finally get some progress with the plot. We saw what Sister Clarice's plan really is about and that she is no different then Barnabas really. She just wants to give the believers their Heaven in this world. Although I'm pretty sure most religions would consider VR cheating. But still it was better then watching Daniel and Joseph mop around. I still am not sure how they managed to decide to combine the forces to sell the afterlife. It seemed to involved more weird rituals then the actual religious deal. Anyway it seems that both the church of one god and the corporate mob inc are after the same thing. Only one plans to give it to faithful and the other to sell it. I think I despise them both. This makes me root for the ones already living in the VR.
And that's it. It means that for me the best parts of whole Caprica universe - the actual technology that they are both after - was missing from the episode. We just got a glimpse of Zoe being awesome and suggestion that Tamara is now pretty badass. With the references to Matrix and The Clockwork Orange. I finally felt really interested in the story again.
In the end the only things I really enjoyed was spotting the buildings we knew from BSG (Kara's "hospital" was a gangster mansion - heh) and Zoe's Matrix fight. The rest felt just like a set up - the introduction of two opposite forces. Unfortunately I don't think you can root for either of them. I know this is intentional. After all this is the story of corruption and the fall of civilization but it helps if there is someone you can care about on each side. Erikson did it much better in Midnight Tides - I still despise the two opposing forces but I cared for the soldiers fighting on both sides and rooted them. The only one I care about right now is the Cyrus Xander and he isn't directly involved anyway. Well, there is Lacy on the other side but she still is double agent, right?
In fact the only side I care about are the avatars. I want for Zoe and Tamara to meet. I want them to outsmart everyone. I want them to pair up and conquer the universe. Can this be the AU?
BTW isn't it funny how new technologies changed the tv seasons definition. Almost all shows are formatted so they can fit DVDs either in full or 2 in parts. And there are no more constant breaks within seasons - just all the episodes shown right after each other and then put on DVD as season Caprica's season 1.0 debut last night. And the programing slang that the internet used for this is official terminology now.
