Poland (and whole north of Europe) is covered in snow. It's been falling since Christmas ended every few days. A lot came on New Year. Plenty on Wednesday. So we already had like 20 cm of it. The yesterday evening it started to snow again. It snowed for whole night and part of today giving us extra 10-15 cm of snow and then as temperature raised the snow started to turn into instantly freezing rain. It covers everything with an ice sheet. The wind and ice make it feel like it's colder then it actually is. It's just -2 and it feels like -10. It looks pretty - everything covered in white, shiny blanket but it's hard to travel through so much snow by either car or on foot (too deep). Right now trains are the best options. The weight of snow and ice already caused massive power outages in southwest of Poland where the rain came earlier. We can loose power (and heating) anytime - this happens even in better weather here.

The rest of northern Europe (this side of mountains mostly) isn't much better. In both France and Germany there is serious travel problems and in anticipation of the same blizzard we have now German government advised their citizens to stock supplies and stay at home. Only Brits enjoy they first not instantly melting snow in years but they also face gas shortage problems. At the same time south of Europe is having spring-like weather with temperatures up to 20oC in Bulgaria (they ought to have snow). BBC has nice graph of that (bottom of the page - picture 4).

In only week I leave Poland to go west for my post-doc. I'm getting more and more worried. The air travel have been disrupted by weather in whole Europe. Another bomber made the security even more crazy. I hope I'll be able to leave at all. I hope there won't be too much delays. I hope I'll manage to get there on time for my my other flight. I'm already worrying too much I don't need all those extra features.
