How many billions it takes to win
Feb. 23rd, 2010 09:43 pmHere is a list of BAFTAs Avatar didn't win. I think Kathryn Bigelow deserved those but there is part of me that wishes for sf movie to win the non-genre awards like those. If big, teary melodramas could do it why not sf. Even if it's only because of the boxoffice. I don't think English Patient was any more deserving then Avatar. Although I admit Hurt Locker is a better movie but so is District 9 and it doesn't have any chance to win. I'm happy for Duncan Jones who got a well deserved Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer award for Moon.
Saturn Awards nominations were announced and they have some strange category breakdown. I admit when I looked at Best SF Film nominees and saw Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen but not District 9 I was flabbergasted. But it turned out it is nominated for Best International Film. Also Watchmen is Fantasy. Go figure. As it is I'm rooting for Moon and District 9 and Sam Rockwell and Neill Blomkamp. And for T:tSCC to win one last award. I'm sure Up will get Animated. I bet Avatar will win Fantasy. BTW Hurt Locker and Kathryn Bigelow are nominated too. Wouldn't it be funny if Cameron got Oscar and Bigelow got Saturn?
And for fun the magic of TV revealed - it's more fake then you've ever suspected:
