No Pictures
Jul. 13th, 2010 10:43 pmThe difference between the real and made up disasters is that with fake it's all done by the time you live cinema and when it's real the repercussions drag forever. And what's worse when it doesn't affect you you tend to forget when the new shiny thing take it's place in the news. There are still people dieing or trying to live in horrible conditions. And the Gulf of Mexico may not recover in our lifetime.
The resources and efforts to help depend on media coverage these days. As soon as something is out of news it's out of hearts. So the decision to forbid anyone who doesn't have special permission form getting close and taking pictures of the oil spillage is more then just freedom of information. After not talking about it doesn't make it stop happening.
I admit the pictures of water burning and smoke over water are pretty in an apocalyptic kind of way. If it was a movie it would've been so cool. But then you see dolphins dieing birds unable to move. Shores full of dead fish. It's like and of the world. and it's happening right now. And even all the money BP has won't be able to undo what happened. It makes me glad I don't have a car. It made me not won't get one.
Of course I know we are all to dependent on oil. From chewing gum to plane travel the world runs on the remains of ancient creatures. I know I will eventually get a car. I know I will board a plane next month. I know I'm one of those people who create the demand that makes companies try to get to the impossible to get places. Accidents happen. And as risk grew so grew the possibility that something like that would happen. And it did. Now hydrogen stations look so much more appealing.
The only good part all the people who try to save all they can. Maybe at least the next generation of sea turtles will have a chance.
