ellestra: (anomander rake)
The annual LJ Fandom Steel Cage Match is already on the stage of 16 and many of my favourites are already gone including last year winner (and runner-up). This one is mostly for the TV fandoms so the popularity largely depends on what is in this year. I like observing how it changes from year to year. Still I hope Buffy will win this year, as now that both Aeryn and Annie are gone and she's beating Olivia, she is the one I'm rooting for. Still I like that the Comedy bracket is being ruled by geeks (I'm rooting for Troy in that one).

Meanwhile on suvudu the annual Cage Match is just starting today. This is for book fandoms and the last years winners were deliberately removed from the contest. The first 8 matches are open for voting but I'm really waiting for the next 8 as the New Corbuzon Division contain Quick Ben (funny how none of Divisions has characters from places that given them name). YAY for MBotF inclusion this year. The best part of this one are the short stories about how the fights would went on (the one with Beowulf is in verse!). And I hope we can expect ones from authors too later on.

The fights fanfics usually take under consideration who would actually win the fight but such polls are always the popularity contests. But what makes it interesting is that it is popularity among the people who frequent that site. This means for example that Twilight doesn't stand a chance. The popularity (or unpopularity) of the author also plays a big role so I'm sure Vin will go far as Sanderson is in now and he already announced this on his site. On the other hand Zed will probably go further then Rand ever did despite the Goodkind hate because he is being helped by likable TV show. Right now I'm just bummed Takeshi Kovacs is loosing.
