It seems like all the old SF and fantasy movies are to get redone. You probably thought The Day the Earth Stood Still was enough. But no. They want to do this to all the classics. Even those that really don’t need better version.
There are talks of the Metropolis remake. I’m not sure if I can even make sense of that. How would is that suppose to work? What will they talk about? Will they use the designs?
Then the also want to remake Total Recall because they want to use the better CGI of today. This is funny – CGI is the last thing this movie needs. I liked Total Recall but only as crazy, Arnold movie. How can you make it work without Arnold? If you want better effects just do the Star Wars on it. If you want the story go back to the original.
Then they are planning to supplant one of the greatest children movies with the brand new version. They want to remake The Neverending Story. What’s next? E.T.?
Can’t someone find some new stories?
You probably think SF is useless escapism but in truth it can prepare you to face the future. You think computer games are just mindless violence but they can give you useful skills. And apocalyptic games prepare the young people for survival in the dystopian, end-of-the world future. Apparently :P
A propos the use of SF. The first four SF books you should read if you’re working in social media. Too bad people who discuss sociology of the internets are too snobbish about SF. Or can’t believe somebody thought about it before them.
Now I go back to my double dose of Life.
