Japanese scientist constructed transparent frog. Its skin is transparent so insides can bee seen. They can observe how frog works in vivo. See the organs working, blood vessels. It the first time one could see how the organism works on everyday basis. No tomography, no vivisection. Just see-through frog. Although in the one on picture all I could actually see was eggs. Maybe male frogs are(will be?) are more interesting :P.
This is fascinating. And what's even more fascinating is their plan to make fluorescent frogs by attaching fluorescent proteins to frog proteins. One could make colourful patterns, shining organs by choosing proteins that only get produced in certain cells. You can also see cancer spreading, or changes in expression of proteins with age. Live.
This is what makes science so wonderful.
