ellestraThe signs of oncoming apocalypse are everywhere - North America froze over and Liberia suffers from giant warm plague. The 5 cm long caterpillars are destroying crops and with food prices already high and global economic crisis this may end with famine and death in the region. I hope the FAO and local governments manage to get it under control. They already applied for international help in spraying the pesticides. They need help now before they loose all the crops and would have to relay on charity.
It seems nervous systems evolved twice on Earth. The common ancestor of all animals - Placozoans - has been found and it seems now that lower (jellyfish, sponges and corals) and higher (worms, insects, fish and human) animals evolved in parallel both developing nervous systems independently. Things like that happen in evolution - eye is thought to have evolved 25 times. When something of common use is needed and environment is the same and one uses the same set of genes as a template. Placozoans and sponges both have genes used by higher organisms for nervous systems in their genomes, although they don't use them that way themselves.
South Korean company found a way to clone pets better, faster, more. They claim success rate has doubled - dog copy for everyone. One dog for life, in ever new iterations. It's so sf I think I've read this somewhere. Future truly sneaks up on us.

Once again Star Trek legend goes to space. Posthumously. Majel Barrett-Roddenberry is to join her husband in orbit.
Have you watched that one with a werewolf, a vampire and a ghost living together? New sitcom on BBC3 about three young people living in a flat together and trying their luck at Being Human. Might be fun. I hope to like it as much as No Heroics.
