'The Diamond Age' Adaptation
Jan. 14th, 2007 01:00 pmScifi channel is going to make adaptation of Neal Stephenson’s The Diamond Age. It’s suppose to be a six-hour miniseries. George Clooney is going to direct it.
I must admit I’m very exited because unlike the Eathsea adaptation this one is written by Stephenson himself. There still be some changes but main storyline should be preserved.
I think in some ways it is a very cinematic story - all Victorian on the surface – clothes, bicycles, manners and then the underlying high technology – interactive books with moving pictures, nanofactories hanging in the sky. The whole old-new contrast. It’s also something I’m most excited about Northern Lights adaptation – Lyra’s world. Maybe it’s my hidden love of steampunk.
I wonder where they going to film it. The book takes place at the cost of China and most of background characters are Chinese. I mean it’s easy to hire few people to play main Chinese characters in US or Canada but to make whole mouse army? Or maybe they’d just be computer generated. I just hope they won’t be written out of the story. This whole abandoned to die Chinese girls is the story that resonates most with the present.
Now I want to know the cast so I could get used to how they look like so it won’t feel to weird when I’m watching. I’m sure there going to be lot of complains :D.
