I saw Thor: The Dark World today. I liked it a lot more then the first one. It has great moments of humour - they realised what worked well last time with Darcy and Eric and built on that perfectly. It also has a lot of very pretty action - beautiful VFX and well choreographed fights - both among people and starships.

There were few things I hated. Main one was turning Jane into McGuffin so she can be an object everyone fights about. This is also when Odin turns into complete jerk (he stays like that for the rest of the movie so you don't even care what happens to him) - he only starts caring about her the moment he learns she is infected with the aether.

The other one is of course fridging Frigga. I can't really express how I hate her being killed off so Thor and Loki can go on revenge trip together.

Another one was the whole forced love triangle with Sif. I know comics and myths have her and Thor together but it felt fake here.

I was also little mad at them for sidelining Hogun.

There are few moments that are pure gold. Nothing better then the Loki illusions when they are escaping. The whole room gasped and then laughed at Captain America appearance. There was Captain America: Winter Soldier trailer before the movie but Chris Evens looked like he had more fun in this little bit. Probably because his character is so serious all the time and here he got to act like a kid dressed up as captain America (and say what he thinks about tightness of the costume). Also Sif as Thor - the genderswappers are going to have so much fun with this.

As I said they also paid attention to what worked last time and there was more Darcy and she got her own intern and they were both hilarious and very cute together (much better love story - the other one is too mushy for me). I'm also happy they gave more comedic material to Stellan Skarsgard - he nailed it. Their story was a nice ofsett to all the pathos filled Asgard scenes. The best part is that it's the geek team that saves all the nine realms and it's awesome. Thor's the muscle but they are the brains of the operation. Actually, when I think about it Thor is the sheriff Carter of this story.

Heimdall was another one who got more screen time - more Idris Elba is always good and Heimdall was brilliant - he destroys a spaceship with just some daggers. Sif and Warriors Three were fun - it was nice to see them all again and Zach Levi was a decent replacement for Charming. Frigga was badass. She beat Malekith easy. Also can Jamie Alexander have her own action film?

The Loki thing was obvious. From death scene to last scene - at least they both got what they wanted. Unlike the rest of the internets I'm not a big fan of Loki. All that happened to him he did to himself - he tried to murder his whole family and destroy world (mostly Earth) because he found out he was adopted. And his family loved him. So I never really felt bad for him. Also, unlike the rest of internets, I don't find Loki particularly good looking. I think Tom Hiddleston is much more handsome in his real colouring (maybe it's the gelled hair wig - those always creep me out) so I also don't get the swooning (I think Chris Hemsworth is almost improbably pretty - I'm still not fully convinced he is a real human being - but I, personally, am prone to Chris O'Dowd) and don't tend to woobify him and excuse everything he does. Still, Odin was so generally unlikable in this movie I didn't even mind he got replaced. But I wonder if that was plan from the beginning - Loki told Algrim which way to go - did he cause Frigga's death accidentally or was it part of the plan to take over Asgard (she would know he wasn't Odin)?

I have no idea why the whole thing was happening in London but there was a moment when Malekith lands there and I had this weird sense of irony - he came to destroy the place Doctor so persistently saves. Oh Nine what became of you. I also kept thinking it must've been Christmas ;P

The whole world hopping thing was awesome and then they even made sure we knew fighter jets made it back.

I had a lot of fun watching it. I saw it in 2D and I'm happy with this choice. I tried watching previous Marvel movies in 3D and all I remember is that they often ended being to dark and there was no real point in 3D so I didn't even try this time. It's very pretty in 2D too.

BTW - first, mid-credits scene sets up Guardians of the Galaxy (It looks like The Collector wants all the Infinity Gems - and that may feed into further Thanos storyline :) but the second, post-credits, one is not obligatory (Thor comes to Jane and then we see forgotten ice beast chasing birds in the abandoned buildings - funny but what if those kids come back there).
