Just a heads up:

Amazon has Battlestar Galactica promotion today and you can buy the complete series for 63-70% off on DVD and bluray. Only today.

Also Stargate SG-1: The Complete Series Collection on DVD is available for largely reduced price. This may last a little longer.

They also have ebook of Neal Stephenson's Reamde for just 2.99. I was thinking about getting this book for a while so I grabbed it just as I learned about this.

And here you can get Torchwood: Series 1-4 - on bluray all-region.

I’ve watched Torchwood: Children of Earth lately and I liked it. I think this was the first time I really felt this was a show for grown ups. Till now it’s supposed adultness mostly consisted of nakedness and sex scenes and a little gore, or in other words something adolescents think is very grown up. This time it was more cruelty and though decisions. Gray situation and though moral choices. Bad people doing good things, good people doing bad things. Leaders being cowardly and common people being brave. It was still a bit oversimplified and some points were driven in by an anvil but it was some good entertainment.

I liked Children of Earth more then I expected to. It was compelling and entertaining. And I had fun.

I've seen both the ending of Torchwood and the beginning of Doctor Who.

Torchwood was depressing. )
I dislike stuff done just for shock value - I'm not easily shocked and it make me feel cheated in you did it for the publicity. Captain America death kind of way.
On the other hand shit happens. Bad things usually came in least appropriate moment and people die for stupid reasons and when they shouldn't and could be saved and I actually prefer that to some heroic sacrifice, saving universe kind of way.

Doctor Who, on the contrary, was completely silly (in a good way). )
I like Donna. She should be fun. I wonder if her mother will find more then just keys in this bin.

Today somehow became very important day for television:

Torchwood season 2 ends. Was fun. Wonder if any of the rumors will turn out to be true.

Battlestar Galactica season 4 begins after over a year long break. I almost forgot to care. (I'm not counting Razor - I didn't care about it).

And Glina season 2 - a polish cop show comes back after 4 years. Take that BSG.

It must have been planned. Who knows the secret meaning of 04/04/08 (there must be a significance in the fact that this means the same date to USians and normal people ;P)

The last few episodes of Torchwood seem all have common theme - dying aliens.

What makes us who we are, the persons we claim to be. Aren’t our personalities just the electricity coursing our brains? State of mind.
I was always fascinated by stories about losing memory and becoming someone else. And the more sci-fi equivalent – stories of fake personalities.
Isn’t losing memory just like death? The person who was there is gone. And somebody else takes up the free shell. A new person. With his/her own memories and goals.
Isn’t then regaining old memories like destroying that new person?
If one could chose then who has more right to that body? To live life? The first one? Or maybe the nicer? The one we know better?
And what if the old personality was guilty of crime – is it inherited with body like mortgage?
In latest Torchwood episode they had this problem to.

Too bad it always ends badly.
